Why Choose Indie Authors?

Discover indie authors from across the United States. My Secret Shelves celebrates independent voices with the same prominence as traditionally published works. Explore our curated selection of talented authors from Louisiana and other states such as Michigan, South Carolina, and more! Every author starts with one words that turns into a world you can further explore. We cherish those who are self-published and traditionally published. We often found our indie authors are also not given the credit they deserve. Joseph Richardson

Joe Richardson is a U.S. Army veteran, husband, and father of a seven-year-old daughter, and the independent author of the epic science-fiction saga The Burning Storm — a multi-book space opera exploring power, loyalty, sovereignty, and the cost of unity in a fractured galaxy. His debut novel spans more than 600 pages and launches a long-form narrative universe built with original alien races, languages, military systems, and political factions designed to evolve across multiple books. Rather than writing disposable fiction, Joe builds consequence-driven worlds where decisions matter and no victory comes without cost. Drawing from military discipline and structured planning, he approaches storytelling like a campaign strategy — blending tactical realism with emotional depth and large-scale galactic conflict. Beyond writing, Joe enjoys movies, television, anime, professional wrestling, MMA, books, and sports — influences that shape his cinematic pacing, fight choreography, character rivalries, and long-arc storytelling style. He often explores how storytelling across mediums — from anime power scaling to wrestling character psychology — informs compelling narrative design.

Joe speaks openly about:
• Building a massive fictional universe from scratch
• Writing 150,000+ word novels with discipline and structure
• Self-publishing through Amazon KDP
• Transitioning from military life into creative entrepreneurship • Fatherhood and balancing creativity with family life
• Power dynamics, loyalty, and morally complex antagonists
• What anime, pro wrestling, and combat sports teach about storytelling

Joe is currently expanding The Burning Storm into a long-term saga with interconnected arcs and evolving character legacies — built with the mindset of someone who believes stories should carry weight and consequence.
