Death on the Atchafalaya by Berchman Richard
Description
The lure of gold and the wealth that it bestows has driven men through the ages to follow dangerous exploits to acquire the precious metal.
Originally found in the ground, it has been used in many fashions, all signifying wealth and power. Gold has been on display in the form of jewelry, coins, and even crowns. But some of it returns to earth to be hidden from the eyes of mankind, waiting in the darkness to once again be found and returned to light.
This tale has three storylines.
The first follows the trail of an ancient treasure chest full of gold stolen from a rich merchant sailing ship, only to be once again returned to earth to be hidden in the dark soil of the Louisiana swamps, and the men who search and die to find it.
The second storyline follows the present-day journey of two older men seeking one last adventure in a small cabin cruiser. This new experience takes them through the waterways of Texas and the Intercoastal Canal until they reach the waters of Louisiana and the river flowing through the Atchafalaya swamp.
The third storyline blends the two adventures together when men hidden deep in the swamp, jealously guard the secret of the buried gold against those who want to steal it.
