The woman christened by Martin as The Crippled Criminologist removed a reference book from her bookcase, paged to the portion she wished to cite, then wheeled her chair closer to the tabloid journalist.
"You may be familiar with a thought experiment proposed by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Erwin Schrodinger," she said.
"Basically, a cat is sealed in a box with a flask of poison. The release of the poison to kill the cat is triggered by the random decay of a radioactive isotope.
"Until such unknown time that the random release of the poison happens, however, the unobserved cat can be said to be both alive and dead.
"Well, the time capsule could be considered a sort of Schrodinger casket ..."
